School of Public Economics and Administration of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics established in September 2001 on the basis of original Departments of Finance, Investment and Social Security, and other Public Economics or Public Administration related Departments.

School currently operates five Departments, three Professional Master's Degree Points, and ten research institutes. They are Department of Finance, Taxation, Public Management, Social Security and Social Policy, Investment;Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Taxation, Master of Valuation; Public Policy Study Center, China Education Expenditure Performance Appraisal Center, Research Center for Health Policy and Management, Social Security Research Center, Asset Appraisal Research Center, Resources and Environment Policy and Management Research Institute, Institute of Real Estate, Investment Research Institute, Public Management Research Center, Empirical Analysis and Survey Research Center. School owns 10 undergraduate Disciplines, 15 Master Points(including 3 Professional Master’s Degree Points), 7 Doctoral Points, 1 post-doctor mobile station. The Finance discipline is one of the first batch Master and Doctoral Points approved by the Ministry of Education. The discipline honored the Ministerial Key Discipline in 1997 by the Ministry of Finance, and in 2001 the National Key Discipline by the Ministry of Education, and again in 2007 the National Key Discipline.

There are 1662 students, including 981 undergraduate (including 802 normal students and 179 exchange students), 560 Master students (including 132 academic masters, 316 MPA students, 62 MT students, 50 MV students), and 121 doctor students.
